Gerald Cooper Award, CPP Award

As a tribute to his passion for volunteering, mentoring and his commitment to the profession, the Chapter 30 Board named an award in his honor. This is the Chairman’s award which recognizes board members who have distinguished themselves through their volunteer efforts and selfless commitment to ASIS and our Chapter. The recipient receives a plaque marking the event and a cash award of $250.00 In addition, the Chapter will donate an additional $250.00 to the ASIS Foundation in honor of the recipient.

Gerry was on hand to present the award to the first few recipients, an honor which he held dearly.

Charles J. Knight Award

Each year, the Florida West Coast Chapter of ASIS International presents the Charles J. Knight Award. Chapter Officers select a member whose specific knowledge and contributions reflect the spirit with which Mr. Knight served the Chapter. The recipient receives a plaque marking the event and a cash award of $250.00. In addition, the Chapter will donate another $250.00 to an established charity of the award winner’s preference.

The following is information that was developed with the help of ASIS International headquarters personnel as well as the personal records and recollection of Mr. Guido R. Massimei, who was a personal acquaintance of Mr. Knight.

Charles J. Knight joined ASIS in 1958. With his considerable insight and personal experience, he helped found the first ASIS Chapter in West Central Florida which was called the St. Petersburg Chapter, chartered January 16th, 1959. He became the first chairperson. He also served as the ASIS Regional Vice-President for the Florida South East Region during the years 1959 and 1960. In 1974, the St. Petersburg Chapter became what is known today as the Florida West Coast Chapter 30.

NOMINATIONS

Law Enforcement Officer Awards

The ASIS Florida West Coast Chapter 30 holds an Annual Law Enforcement and Security Officer Awards Luncheon in May. We accept nominations for individuals in Law Enforcement from the Tampa Bay Area who have met the following criteria. You are encouraged to nominate an individual(s) from your agency:

Law Enforcement Officer of the Year:
One trophy is presented to a law enforcement officer who performs an act of courage involving the risk of personal injury for the purpose of protecting life and/or property; or, who, in the performance of their duties, physically rescues a person from the likelihood of certain death, or renders first aid to a person whose life is in immediate jeopardy.

Law Enforcement Officer Excellence in Performance Award:
A trophy is presented to law enforcement individual(s) who display continued job performance in their assignments in a distinguished and exemplary manner, and/or performs an act of extraordinary intelligence or invaluable service.

Dispatcher of the Year Award:
One trophy is awarded to a law enforcement dispatcher for an intelligent act(s) materially contributing to a valuable accomplishment while maintaining professionalism and reassuring calm during extremely stressful and dangerous situations.

K-9 Achievement Award:
A trophy is awarded to a law enforcement K-9 officer(s) for a highly creditable accomplishment(s), and while in the company of a K-9 (dog), he or she performed under difficult or hazardous conditions to both the handler and the K-9.

Law Enforcement Officer Meritorious Service Certificate:
A Framed Certificate is awarded to law enforcement officer(s) who have made valuable contributions through their actions, or through the development of innovative and successful policies, procedures, or methods to increase efficiency in an administrative or operational procedure for the safety and wellbeing of individuals or for the protection of property.

Security Officer Awards

Security Officer of the Year:
